Are We Really Doing This?
Are we moving? Are we sure? Should we move? These were the questions we asked ourselves, even as we’ve cherished our life on the beautiful island of Madeira. But the answer became clear: it’s time to be true to ourselves and embrace the next phase of our journey. Yes, we’re moving!
Welcome to Track Us Down
If you’re new to Track Us Down, our platform is all about early retirement, moving abroad, and creating what we call a better second half of life. Sometimes, this means making bold decisions—even moving from the place you moved to. We’ve spent three incredible years in Madeira. Our home, neighborhood, and the connections we’ve built have been amazing. But we’ve realized that the next step in our journey is calling, and we’re excited to share this transition with you. If you’re considering a move to, from, or within Madeira, our experience might offer valuable insights.
Why We’re Moving
We aren’t leaving because we’re unhappy. Quite the opposite: we love this home, the memories we’ve created, and the breathtaking view over Funchal. However, we’ve learned that the view, as stunning as it is, isn’t everything. While we’ve been gazing down at Funchal, we’ve realized we want to be part of the action. Thanks to our trusted realtor, who found both a buyer for our current home and an incredible new place in a building we’ve admired for years, the stars have aligned. If you’re relocating to Madeira and need a great realtor, reach out to us—we’d be happy to share her details.
Embracing Track Us Down 2.0
We’re calling this new chapter “Track Us Down 2.0,” a fitting name for this next phase of our second half of life. Here’s why this move feels right:
- Minimalism and Light Living
Moving is a perfect opportunity to reevaluate possessions, declutter, and simplify. When we first moved to Portugal, we downsized dramatically after 23 years in the same home. Even in just two and a half years here, we’ve accumulated more than we’d like. This move lets us downsize further and embrace minimalism.
- Practicing What We Preach
On our channel, we’ve talked extensively about downsizing and focusing on what truly matters. This move is our chance to live out those principles, just as many of you have shared your own inspiring journeys of decluttering and simplifying.
- Freedom and Flexibility
For us, freedom means being able to lock the door and travel without worrying about maintenance or upkeep. Our new home aligns with our goal of staying mobile and flexible.
- Taking Risks
This move reflects our desire to embrace adventure and step outside our comfort zone. While we lived stable lives for decades, our second half is about taking chances and trying new things.
- Financial Smartness
The value of our current home has appreciated, making this move a financially savvy decision. It’s a lateral move that better aligns with our goals for 2.0, leveraging our assets while maintaining our budget.
Where We’re Moving
Madeira is an island of endless beauty, with countless amazing places to live. For now, we’re moving to Funchal. As city people, we love the energy, walkability, and vibrant atmosphere of the city, all while staying close to the ocean. Who knows what the future holds? One of the joys of this lifestyle is the freedom to adapt and move again if we choose.
Advice for Your Move
If you’re considering a move, here are some tips: • Do It Yourself: Research thoroughly and handle as much of the process yourself as possible. It’s rewarding and cost-effective. • Consult Professionals When Needed: For complex matters like taxes, consult experts, but for most other aspects, you can find the information you need online. • Declutter: Use the opportunity to simplify your possessions. Being light and free enhances your ability to travel and enjoy life.
